So – Uvita
is actually known for something, it appears, and it is no less than a Whales
Tail! It is a sand formation which shows only on low tide – at which time you
can go out on the tail itself and swim safely (which is no small task in this
surfer-area)! So that is what we did – we talked to the rangers of the Marina
ballena National Park the day before (Saturday) and were informed that the best
time to come would be 9:30 the next day – as low tide was at 11:57 so we had
ample time to go out there, swim, and
get back without being cut off by high tide!

So that is
what we did – we got up bright and early and drove to the beach, paid a
whooping 6 bucks for Arild and I each (kids were free) and walked for what
seemed forever to get out to the tale of the whale itself. Quite frankly, it
wasnt that big of a deal, but we had to do it – it was after all one of the
cool things about Uvita! So we swam there – in really warm water actually – and
even Arild went in (mainly because the alternative – staying on the beach – was
crazy in the sweltering heat)!
So – been there, done that – most likely our
only beach trip on this vacation – we are truly not beach people… I am much too
nervous around huge areas of water with no bottom when I have the kids with me!
I do prefer pools much more! Arild just doesnt like sand in his ears for 3
months after a trip to the beach LOL
